Festive demand is lopsided
A festive in-app campaign is a nudge, banner, tooltip or reward that appears inside your app during the Navratri to Bhai Dooj window. It matters because it reaches users at the moment they are about to pay or invest.
Most fintech teams plan Diwali around one “festive uplift” number. The data shows each money action moving on its own curve.
According to Dataful’s analysis of NPCI data, digital gold purchases via UPI hit ₹2,290 crore in October 2025, up 62% from September. In the same month, AMFI data reported by Angel One shows SIP inflows rose about 1%, to ₹29,529 crore.
So a gold app and a mutual fund app should run two very different Diwalis. Start from the action you want completed, like a gold purchase or a verified KYC, and size the campaign to how much that action actually moves.
The most valuable campaign is the boring one
UPI processed 24.07 billion transactions in September 2026, per Business Today, and average daily volume crossed 800 million for the first time. Peak days push that higher. Every failed payment lands harder.
The moment after a failed or pending payment is when a user decides whether to trust your app again. An inline status message that says what happened and what comes next will do more for your Diwali than any banner. Payment recovery is the highest-value festive campaign, and nobody will ever screenshot it. Promise only the reversal timeline your payment partner guarantees.
Urgency now looks like fraud
Quick Heal’s October 2025 festive advisory flagged fake countdown timers and account-suspension threats as common scam tactics. An animated countdown in your app borrows the exact visual language your users were just warned about.
Four rules keep festive copy on the right side of that line:
Show a real end date in plain text and drop the timer.
Never ask for an OTP or PIN in any message.
Warn users before they approve a UPI collect request from an unknown payee.
Keep offers inside authenticated screens so they look nothing like links in an SMS.
Gold copy needs the same care. On 8 November 2025, SEBI said digital gold products sit outside its purview with no investor protection cover, so words like “safe” don’t belong anywhere near them.
Festive week inflates every chart. Business Today’s reporting of NPCI figures shows UPI average daily value rose 13% from September to October 2025, with no single app’s campaign behind it. Compare October to September and you will credit your nudges for the calendar’s work.
A holdout group is a slice of users who see no festive messages at all, so the gap between them and everyone else is the lift your campaign actually caused. Count completed money actions against that holdout, and treat any campaign that lifts clicks alongside complaints as a failure.

The In-App Engagement Glossary is live
It holds 35 plain-language definitions for the mobile growth terms that come up most in product and growth reviews, from activation rate to zero-release campaigns. Each entry explains how the term works inside an app and compares it with the term it’s most often confused with, like nudges and coachmarks, or cohorts and holdout groups.
If this issue’s holdout-group section raised questions, start there. KYC drop-off and suppression logic are worth bookmarking before Dhanteras too.
